As the world of electric cars grows rapidly, European companies do not want to lag behind. In this context, the regional ban on diesel vehicles has made users uneasy. However, Stellantis, which owns companies such as Peugeot, Chrysler and Citroen, will electrify some of its diesel vehicles under a new program.
Stellantis will electrify diesel vans
Stellantis plans to convert its popular diesel vans such as the Peugeot Expert and Citroen Jumpy to electric powertrains from 2024. The aim of the program will be to retain small business and commercial operators who cannot afford a new electric vehicle.
Stellantis, which plans to provide vehicle owners with zero-emission vans, stated that it will provide affordable conversions in this context. Speaking on the subject, manager Xavier Peugeot said that the conversions realized in Stellantis production facilities will be cheaper than 20 thousand euros.
This program will first be implemented in the French market. 40 percent of the conversion costs of up to 10,000 euros will be covered by state subsidies. Aging vans will be replaced with cleaner electric powertrains instead of 2.0-liter diesel engines.
The range offered by the powertrain under the program has been a subject of debate. Stellantis said that they currently cannot provide the 224-350 km range of zero-electric vans. However, Peugeot emphasized that the conversions will be reliable for commercial operations.
Although details are yet to be confirmed, the factory electric models are expected to use 50 kWh and 75 kWh battery packs and a 134hp electric motor. Let’s see if this program will come to Turkey.
